Celebrating the larger surrounding systems, ‘knots’ refers to the measurement of air and water flow. This installation consists of two complimentary groupings. ‘On Shore – Off Shore’ are kinetic weather-vanes, celebratory in their form and character and sited at the upper elbow of the pedestrian overpass. They become a landmark announcing the gateway to the Park. The ‘Creek Dwellers’ are subtle discoveries, relic-like and hidden in the existing storm-water swale and enhanced planting scheme. As a whole these elements are created in response to, and interact with, the site’s specific wind and water patterns. Combined, they reference the larger surrounding systems; the ebb and flow of the tides, the cycles of weather and water sheds, the movement of global commodities and the migrating and visiting species… a fun and whimsical intervention in the landscape that is evocative, dynamic and remains open to interpretation.
